ASRY and Fincantieri to Explore Joint Shipbuilding Opportunities
Bahrain’s leading shipyard, ASRY, and the Italian Fincantieri group have signed a partnership agreement to explore new collaboration opportunities in the shipbuilding sector. The agreement marks a strategic opening for Fincantieri into the Bahraini shipbuilding market and further strengthens the Group’s expanding presence in the Middle East.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, the two companies will assess projects for the design and construction of surface military vessels up to 80 m in length for the Bahrain Navy and Coast Guard. The partnership will also evaluate similar-sized offshore vessel designs and construction, along with potential export opportunities across the Gulf. The agreement covers maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for military, commercial and offshore vessels, and includes knowledge exchange in naval design and production process optimisation.
ASRY has also recently signed a partnership agreement with Roboze to establish Bahrain’s first advanced additive manufacturing facility. Located within ASRY’s premises, the new plant will support marine MRO operations as well as the oil and gas, energy, aerospace and defence sectors, where high-performance, lightweight and durable components are critical for operational continuity.
ASRY and Roboze will co-develop and engineer the new production infrastructure, integrating industrial 3D printing, advanced super-polymer processing, composite manufacturing and digitalised workflows. The initiative aims to reduce downtime, streamline spare parts management and enable on-demand production of essential components, lowering logistics costs and reducing reliance on overseas suppliers. Dr. Ahmed AlAbri, CEO of ASRY, commented: “This partnership strengthens our MRO capabilities and expands access to advanced technical components that are essential to the industries we serve.”
