Following up on its participation at this year’s ADIPEC, EMAC opened Dubai Arbitration Week with a session by Gordon Blanke, who discussed a range of topics including institutional arbitration; the merits of onshore arbitration compared with offshore; the UAE’s year-old federal arbitration law and law enforcement. Blanke is an independent arbitrator and founding partner of Blanke Arbitration LLC has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution in the UAE.
The week long Arbitration Week provided various panel discussions and networking sessions, insightful knowledge and tips for ensuring the effective application of arbitration and mediation in the United Arab Emirates. Discussions around the proliferation of technology in international arbitration, as well as trends in managing and controlling the arbitral process in the Middle East, were included in proceedings.
“This is yet another year when EMAC inaugurates the Dubai Arbitration Week with a breakfast panel that indicates our unwavering commitment towards providing excellence in maritime arbitration and mediation. As arbitration increasingly becomes the preferred method of dispute resolution, we believe that these series of events are essential to further engage both the legal and commercial communities to emphasize the cost and time benefits of alternative, specialised dispute resolution,” commented Majid Obaid bin Bashir, Chairman and Secretary General, EMAC.
EMAC will close its breakfast series for the year in December. This time the session will be focusing on the role that ship suppliers play in the maritime sector.
