This year’s TMS Ship Finance & Trade Conference, which takes place on 6th November at Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort, is all set to be one of the most talked-about shipping events in the region. A host of top level speakers have now been confirmed for the event, ensuring it will be a not-to-be-missed experience.
The quality of the occasion is evident right from the outset, with some of the most influential figures in the industry giving presentations. The keynote speaker is Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, chief executive, Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP), who has masterminded some of the most significant inward investment programmes in any sector of the UAE economy in recent times. He will reflect on the value of investments being made by organisations including Cosco Shipping Ports and MSC, providing not just a status report but a unique insight into what the future holds for Abu Dhabi Ports as it strives to become a vital generator of economic activity and trade for the region.
Captain Shamisi will be followed in the headline Session 1 programme by Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, chief executive, ADNOC Logistics & Services. The company has been through some significant changes, bringing various aspects of ADNOC’s maritime and logistics activities under one organisation. Major plans for fleet expansion and diversification are being developed and this is a chance to get a unique briefing on what the aims and objectives of the enlarged group, one of the UAE’s leading shipping businesses, will be as it moves forward.
Captain Al Masabi will be joined on the podium by Abdulla Bin Damithan, chief commercial officer, DP World. This all-important trade enabling group has major capital investment projects underway and planned across the region and beyond. It has also broadened its portfolio to include Drydocks World and Dubai Maritime City this year, and is continuing to invest in complementary, innovative activities, such as Hyperloop. The presentation will highlight some of the important initiatives that have been completed and others that are underway, and how DP World’s evolving strategy aligns with that of the UAE government’s economic master plan.
Ross Thompson, chief commercial and strategy officer, ADP will take a more operational focus on developments within Abu Dhabi’s ports, which have continued to experience fast growth in a number of different cargo sectors. Last, but not least, Dr. Priyath Wickrama, chairman, Bestar Consultancy, will take a look at some of the key infrastructure projects being considered in Sri Lanka, and will identify the challenges and opportunities that exist in that fast growing economy.
Clive Woodbridge, conference editor, says, “The theme of this first session will be investing in infrastructure and how this can unlock trade potential. We have assembled some well-respected and influential speakers who are perfectly positioned to demonstrate the importance of this topic and how investment in ports and shipping and trade development are inextricably linked.”
