A number of industry experts, representing different technical elements of the shipping business, have agreed to share their know-how and opinions at The Maritime Standard Tanker Conference 2018, which takes place on October 16th at The Atlantis, the Palm, Dubai.
The third and final session of the event takes as its theme ‘The environmental and regulatory agenda – charting a safe, secure and sustainable path to tanker shipping growth.’ In this part of the programme speakers will assess how ready the tanker industry is for the 2020 sulphur cap, and whether low sulphur fuels or scrubber systems are the answer, among other environmentally inspired topics. The role of classification societies within the tanker sector, in particular with regards to regulatory compliance and safety, will be discussed, as will the development of solutions for greater maritime security. The ballast water treatment retrofit process will also be high on the agenda, as will the use of new technology, such as inspection drones.
Confirmed speakers so far for session 3 include Waleed Al Tamimi, chief operating officer of Tasneef; June Manoharan, regional director, Lukoil Marine Lubricants; Ibrahim Fahmy, marine advisor, ADNOC; and Tony Field, marine and offshore manager, Middle East and Africa, Lloyds Register. June Manoharan, last year’s Woman in Shipping TMS Award winner, says, “I am delighted to be taking part in the TMS Tanker Conference. The debate around low sulphur fuels is critical for the tanker industry and I hope to be able to contribute positively to this discussion, and raise awareness of the decisions that have to be taken.”
Similarly Waleed Al Tamimi believes the timing of the event is ideal. He adds, “At Tasneef we have a number of initiatives underway that will address issues relating to safety and the environment, and I am looking forward to being able to share them with the audience.”
