Fujairah Terminals, managed by Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP), recently achieved an important milestone when it welcomed the container feeder vessel, Dubai Alliance. This is the first ship to arrive at the terminal following the signing by ADP of a 35 year concession agreement with the Port of Fujairah in June this year. Fujairah Terminals has been established as a subsidiary of ADP and took over management of a number of terminals from Fujairah Port Authority from August 1st.
Dubai Alliance is operated by Star Feeders, a specialist short-sea common carrier that operates a feeder network between UAE ports. Fujairah Terminals’ General Manager, Naser AlBusaeedi, says he welcomes the support and commitment shown by Star Feeders in working with the newly established terminal operator. He added: “Through the planned infrastructure investment and sharing of best practices by ADP, we are confident we are embarking on a new journey that will bring about a positive outlook for the port and the emirate of Fujairah as a whole.”
Under the agreement with the Port of Fujairah, ADP has been granted exclusive rights to enhance existing infrastructure in addition to managing all the port’s container, general cargo, ro-ro and cruise ship facilities. The agreement also provides for investment to enhance Fujairah’s ability to cater to the needs of larger vessels, by deepening berths and building almost 300,000 m2 yard of storage space, as well as a new 1000m long quay. ADP will also invest in new and advanced equipment to increase operational efficiencies and services.
