Tristar Group chief executive, Eugene Mayne, has issued a call to companies in the UAE to support the Global Goals of the United Nations, which aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all people on the planet.
Speaking at the UN Global Goals Workshop, organised by International Quality and Excellence Consultant Sunil Thawani, Mayne said that business leaders must support the ten Principles of the UN Global Compact (UNGC) “not just by lip service but by action.” These ten Principles cover four areas related to human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption and directly contribute to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Since our inception in 1998, we made a commitment to be a responsible business and today this commitment underpins every decision we make,” Mayne declared. Currently UAE based shipping and transport group Tristar is promoting SDG No. 3, on Good Health and Wellbeing, and No. 4 on Quality Education, through its road safety awareness campaigns in the GCC and its support to the education sector in South Sudan and Kenya, respectively.
The Workshop event saw the participation of executives and CSR professionals from various private and public entities, including representatives from the UN Global Compact Local Network UAE. Thawani concluded with a call to take action and to ensure that we “Leave No One Behind” (website https://action4sd.org/leavenoonebehind/). He encouraged attendees to become “Goal Keepers” and register as Partners under SDG No. 17.
