Union Minister of State for Shipping Shri Mansukh Mandaviya met the Secretary General of IMO, Kitack Lim at the 50th Annual Meeting of World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland.
Topics covered during the meeting included the ban on single use plastics, the availability of low Sulphur fuel and the installation of a bust in honour of Mahatma Gandhi at IMO Headquarters in London. As India is celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Mandaviya impressed upon the Secretary General the possibility of siting the bust as a mark of respect to the great man, a request which Kitack Lim agreed to.
During a four day trip to Davos the Minister also met up with DP World Chairman, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, who applauded the recent signing by India of the Hong Kong Convention and the Ship Recycling Act. Other topics covered by the two men included inland transportation and shipbuilding.
