DNV GL recently held its 16th Regional Offshore Committee (ROC) meeting at the Bvlgari Resorts Dubai to address important aspects relating to offshore developments. The agenda covered rules and market updates, operational efficiency, digitalisation, marine insurance and smarter initiatives in the offshore industry. The ROC was very well attended with a record 70 participants who represented the key players in the Middle East offshore industry.
The meeting commenced with the Regional Manager for DNV GL Southeast Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Ioannis Chiotopoulos, welcoming the audience by reflecting on the improving trend in overall market dynamics from the beginning of this year and the importance of striking a balance between optimisation and maintaining quality.
This year also saw the appointment of new ROC Committee Chairman, John Wishart, Chief Operating Officer of Foresight Group International. In his Chairman’s address, Wishart urged owners to embrace changes in the industry by wisely utilising their time and resources. Thereafter Geir Fuglerud, Director of Offshore Classification, updated the meeting on DNV GL’s initiatives to lead the development of rules supporting risk-based barrier management and enhance support to the industry by emphasising innovation and digitalisation.
The ROC also featured presentations from owners, designers and marine insurance underwriters. Arun Pushkarna, Operations Director, Vahana Offshore shared his views on how the use of nomograms could benefit the industry to improve operational efficiency and take faster decisions on preload requirements. Rutger Baan from Gusto MSC provided a very visual presentation on how initiatives could enhance and support SIMOPS on cantilevers. Bozidar Ljubisavljevic, Regional Marine Practice Leader, Howden Insurance Brokers enlightened the committee through his talk on optimising risk transfers and marine insurance spend in the offshore sector by sharing insights on how the insurance market has responded to various developments in recent times.
DNV GL says it believes that by running the annual ROC it has contributed to the offshore sector’s continuous improvement by providing a common platform for owners and operators to interact and share experiences that can benefit the entire industry. “By setting the scene for rig owners to interact and with constant focus on customer centricity, innovation and quality, DNV GL has reinforced itself as a driving player in the Middle East offshore sector,” says Pawan Sahni, Business Development Manager.
