Doha-based Nakilat has assumed full ship management and operational control of two more Q-Flex LNG carriers, Al Ghashamiya and Onaiza, from STASCo (Shell Trading and Shipping Company), with effect from May this year. With cargo carrying capacities of 217,591 and 210,150 cu m respectively, Al Ghashamiya and Onaiza are both wholly-owned by Nakilat and chartered by Qatargas.
Both ships were built in South Korea and delivered in 2009. Their transition to in-house management takes the number of wholly-owned LNG vessels, that are now the responsibility of Nakilat Shipping Qatar Ltd. (NSQL), to eight. The total number of vessels managed by NSQL now stands at 16, including 12 LNG and 4 LPG carriers. Nakilat’s LNG shipping fleet, with 63 vessels, is the largest in the world, while the company also owns and manages four large LPG carriers.
