Drydocks World – Dubai was so pleased with its latest tug from Turkish specialist shipbuilder, Sanmar, that it has ordered a pair of smaller line-handling ASD tugs from the same collaborative team of Sanmar and Canadian naval architects, Robert Allan Ltd. The two new tugs are of similar but different designs on exceptionally quick delivery times. The first is already on its way to Dubai, while the other will be delivered in June, both within a few weeks of order.
The first to arrive in the Arabian Gulf, named Göksu II, and is a RAscal 1500 Class ASD that has a bollard pull of 16 tonnes and a forward free-running speed of 9.5 knots. Its propulsion system comprises a pair of Caterpillar C18 main engines each developing 500kW at 1,900 rev/min to drive rear mounted Veth VZ–550 azimuthing thrusters.
The second vessel, which measures 18.7m x 9.2m, is named Yenicay V and uses Caterpillar C32 main engines each developing 969kW at 1,800 rev/min. These drive Veth VZ-900 azimuthing stern thrusters. This arrangement gives a bollard pull of 32 tonnes and a speed ahead of 12 knots.
