Dubai-based DP World handled 34 million teu across its global portfolio of container terminals in the first half of 2017, up by 7.7% on a like-for-like basis. Second quarter results were particularly encouraging with volumes rising by 10.4%.
Within the UAE, DP World throughput rose by 4.3%, to 7.7 million teu. Second quarter growth was around 6.6%, the company states.
DP World says it has been able to increase market share as a result of securing business from new shipping alliances as well as a better trading environment. On the basis of the encouraging first half performance, the company believes it is well placed to meet its full year 2017 targets.
